Save Our Himalaya First (SOHF-Nepal) is a dedicated, non-governmental organization committed to combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and supporting the communities that depend on the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. Established in 2010, we work in coordination with local, national, and international stakeholders to address the growing challenges posed by global warming and environmental degradation in the region.
Why the Himalayas Need Urgent Protection?
Nepal, home to some of the world’s highest peaks, is experiencing rapid climate change impacts. Rising temperatures, unpredictable monsoons, glacial melting, and an increase in natural disasters threaten not only biodiversity but also the livelihoods of millions. The effects of climate change are already visible in the form of frequent floods, landslides, droughts, and water shortages. If immediate action is not taken, the consequences will be devastating—not just for Nepal, but for the entire South Asian region.
Our Key Missions
1. Climate Action & Advocacy
We advocate for strong climate policies at local, national, and international levels to ensure Nepal receives the necessary support to combat climate change. We work with governments, policymakers, and environmental activists to push for urgent climate action.
2. Biodiversity Conservation
The Himalayas are home to unique wildlife, rare plant species, and delicate ecosystems that are under threat due to climate change and human activities. We focus on protecting endangered species, restoring forests, and preserving the natural habitat of mountain biodiversity.
3. Water Resource Protection & Glacier Preservation
The Himalayan glaciers are the lifeline of major rivers across South Asia, providing water for drinking, irrigation, and hydroelectric power. However, global warming is causing these glaciers to melt at an alarming rate. Our efforts focus on water conservation, sustainable water management, and raising awareness about the importance of preserving these crucial resources.
4. Sustainable Development & Renewable Energy
We promote eco-friendly infrastructure, encourage the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, and advocate for clean transportation methods like electric vehicles. Sustainable development ensures that progress does not come at the cost of environmental destruction.
