Local stakeholders in Pokhara gathered at Tuse Village, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-1, for a dialogue titled “The Voice of Himalaya Parbat,” focusing on the severe impacts of climate change in the Gandaki region. Organized by Save Our Himalaya First (SOHF) Nepal in collaboration with government agencies, universities, and local NGOs, the event highlighted the urgent need for climate action.
Participants, including over 200 local villagers, released an 11-point declaration calling for climate justice. Besh Bahadur Poudel, Minister for Forest and Environment of Gandaki Province, stressed the region’s vulnerability to climate change, while community members demanded compensation for the victims of the 2015 Seti River floods.
Experts discussed climate change impacts on biodiversity, women, tourism, and human rights, with key speakers like Dr. Krishna KC, Khagendra Raj Poudel, and Nitu Gadtaula sharing insights. Local leaders committed to taking urgent measures to protect the environment.

🌐 Gandaki Region Voices Call to Protect the Himalayas: 11-Point Declaration Released in Tuse Village




Local stakeholders in Gandaki Province have come together to advocate for environmental protection and climate justice. The dialogue, titled “Voice of Himalaya Parbat,” was held in Tuse Village, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-1. Organized by Save Our Himalaya First (SOHF) Nepal, in collaboration with the Gandaki Province Forest Ministry, Province Policy and Planning Commission, Gandaki University, and several other organizations, the event aimed to address the growing impact of climate change on the region.
During the program, Besh Bahadur Poudel, Minister for Forest and Environment of Gandaki Province, emphasized the urgent need for effective climate action, stating, “Gandaki region is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We must take immediate action.” The event concluded with the issuance of an 11-point declaration, urging collective efforts for climate justice, protection of natural biodiversity, support for affected communities, and sustainable tourism.
The declaration also highlighted the need for compensation for the victims of the 2015 Seti River floods, which resulted in 72 deaths and left several missing. Local residents, including Machhapuchhre Municipality Vice Chair Sita Adhikari, shared their painful memories of the disaster, calling for justice and support.
The dialogue saw active participation from over 200 local villagers, alongside environmental experts like Dr. Krishna KC, tourism entrepreneur Lucky Chhetri Karki, and NGO representatives. Gandaki Province Policy and Planning Commission Vice Chair Krishna Chandra Devkota, Assembly members, and various other stakeholders expressed their commitment to urgent climate action in the region.
This initiative, driven by SOHF Nepal, has been recognized as a significant step towards ensuring environmental protection and climate justice in the Himalayas.

Stakeholders of Pokhara have made a discussion in raising the collective voice to save the himalayan of Gandaki region . Organizing ‘A Dialogue on The Voice of Himalaya Parbat’ they gathered in Tuse village of Machhapucchre Rural Municipality ward No. 1 saturday and discussed on the different sector that is directly and indirectly affected by climate change in Gandaki region. They published 11 points declaration to unite for climate justice in Gandaki Region.
” Gandaki is most victim area of overall Nepal in regard of climate change , so we should be alert it taking management actions ” Minister of Forest and Environment Ministry of Gandaki Province Bhesh Bahadur Poudel said inagurating the Dailogue.
The dialoge was organized by the Save Our Himalya First ( SOHF ) Nepal with the cooperation and coordination with dozens of provincial and local stakeholders like Gandaki province forest ministry, Province Policy and Planning Commission, Gandaki University, INSEC, NGO Federation Nepal Gandaki, Pokhara Metropolitan City Office, Rural Municipalities of Kaski, Mukta Foundation, Utpidit Mahila Jagaran Kendra and so on.
The program was participated by almost two hundred local villagers who urged authorities to compansate properly to the flood victims of local Kharapani area who were caught by the immesne flood in Seti river in 2015. In that flood 72 people were died. ” It is most painful to remeber, there were almost half dozen were missing in that flood and who were not found yet” Sita Adhikari, Vice Chair of Machhapuchhre municipality said.
During the program different discussions were run on the topics-Flash Flood Hazard in Himalya Region, Clamate change , Women and Tourism, Climate Change and Human Rights and Climate and Biodiversity in Gandaki Region which were presented by Dr. Krishna Kc , Geographer Khagendra Raj Poudel, Tourism enterprainer Lucky Chhetri Karki, NHRC Gandaki Chief Nitu Gadtaula and Director of LIBIRD Bharat Bhandari.
local people appreciated the organizers and stakeholders for remembering Tuse village in doing such important dialogue here and made commitment to keep the environment always protected . ” making flood victim areas well recognized for their original potentialities like tourism also a support for them” local resident of Tuse, Ghachok, of Machhapuchhre Aash Kumar Gurung said.
In the dialogue program, Gandaki Province Policy and Planning Commission Vice Chair Krishna Chandra Devkota, Gandaki province Assembly members- Govinda Nepali, Nanda Prasad Neupane, Kusum Budha Pun, Professor of Gandaki Province Dr. Kapil Adhikari, Spokes person of Pokhara Metropolitan City Office Moti Raj Timilsina had make commitment to combat Climate change in Gandaki region.
