Press Release
Responding the COP 29
As an inspired and dedicated social organization to work in favor of climate change actions “Save Our Himalayan First” ( SOHF) Nepal would like to extend deep appreciation and apprehension on the participation of Nepal government for the COP 29 being held in Baku, the Capital of Azerbaijan, a central Asian country. We want to submit some recommendations in due support of raising voices in mitigating climate change impact in Nepal hoping to have special responses from global stakeholders.
SOHF Nepal is a non-governmental, non-profitable social organization registered in 2010 A.D to work for Climate Change actions in Gandaki Province of Nepal. It collects contributions of community and likeminded social personalities in combating the adverse effect of climate change through running programs and making public awaked on conserving nature, Environment, biodiversity and so on.
As the various reports shows, Nepal, home to some of the world’s most significant mountain ecosystems, is disproportionately affected by climate change. Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and increased risk of natural disasters pose serious threats to the country’s agricultural productivity, water resources, and infrastructure.
Climate change has significantly impacted Nepal, a country highly vulnerable due to its diverse geography, ranging from the lowland Terai plains to the towering Himalayan Mountains. Nepal’s average temperature has been rising at a higher rate than the global average, leading to shifts in weather patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events, and erratic rainfall. The country is experiencing more intense monsoon seasons, resulting in frequent floods and landslides that devastate communities, infrastructure, and agricultural land. The melting of Himalayan glaciers, accelerated by rising temperatures, threatens vital freshwater resources for millions who rely on river systems for drinking water, agriculture, and hydroelectric power. These changes particularly affect rural communities dependent on agriculture, where unpredictable weather hampers crop yields, exacerbating food insecurity and economic vulnerability. Accordingly, “Save Our Himalayan First” ( SOHF) Nepal recommends for addressing the issues appeared in its working areas as follows :
- The loss and damages the community has to face due to fluctuating rainfall, irrigation crisis, disaster and nature based calamities.
- The source of water and river has been getting drained and adverse impact on ecosystem and biodiversity lead the social life getting more vulnerable.
- Develop the renewable energy, immense forestation and electronic vehicle to combat the increases level of Carbon emission by developed countries.
- Nature friendly developmental works should be undertaken.
- The loss of indigenous agriculture, crops, plants and animals should be responded.
